Middle School
You told me no,
I told me yes,
You told me I couldn’t,
I thought what if?
You told me to give up,
But I kept going.
The hell I lived in,
The toll I paid
For daring to be different
And not think in your way,
You told me I was different and not ok,
Threw me in a separate classroom like I had no brain,
Had me ride a short bus for hours at a time,
Just to face discrimination where you tore me apart .
The tears were like showers for many of the nights,
Showers I faced under the darkest of light,
Showers of my regrets,
Showers lacking light,
Showers full of pain, needles, and spite.
But I still loved the world,
That threw me to the sharks,
In water’s so cold.
I was just a child then; I had no choice,
To stand up for myself,
Or to put up a fight.
I was only 13,
I cried myself to sleep,
Nobody there,
Not even a peep,
Barely a friend,
No one to teach,
No one to teach me the correct way to speak,
No family that cared as it seemed at the time,
No one to relate to,
So much to despise,
Soaking in my regrets,
In a world so cold,
Alone at night,
My emotions grew old.
There was one person there,
And that person was you,
Abusing me because you saw me as weak,
I was only a child,
But you took that away,
Made me despise myself in many ways,
I spent countless nights,
Starring at a knife,
Dreaming of the day I wouldn’t have to put up a fight,
As a cried myself to sleep for many of the nights,
I couldn’t stop thinking about taking my own life.
The pain I felt,
The horrible feelings,
The way I kept dreaming of the day I stopped breathing,
I was told “no, don’t take your own life”,
“It’s a selfish decision and you should put up despite”,
But they were the one’s who were truly selfish,
Wanting me to go on living in pain,
Dealing with depression in the hardest of ways,
But I overcame those feelings eventually one day,
Years after I graduated High School I dealt with that pain.
There are a few questions that I have for you?
Did you realize my pain?
What’s your excuse?
How could you treat a child like that?
Put him through hell with no one at bat.
But as time passed,
I realized the lies,
That you told a child that ruined his life,
I’m stronger now,
I realize the pain,
That you might be still giving children in equal ways to this day,
So I’m going to make sure people like you,
Stop getting chances to destroy our youth,
Never get to teach,
Never affect lives,
This is one thing that I will always do Because I despise,
The way you affected me,
And told me these lies,
But now I will go on living my life.
But there’s one last thing,
That I have to say to you,
Would it hurt or mend your heart if I told you that I forgive you.

Here’s a story I’ve been working on for some time now. I have been developing it in my head, little by little, but I don’t think I’ll ever get it published cause I’m not good at writing very much :/
The plot: This is a strongly symbolic story, using pseudo biblical names and nouns, and tells the story of Satan, (lucky) Lilith ( Thil-il) and God (The Great Toy Maker, Al-La). Also of Adam (Ma-Da) and pretty much all of Genesis, including the Apothecary omitted books (Well references any ways). So please tell me what you think of this short story and you can use it to tweak it a bit and publish it also. All I ask is that you at least give me a bit of credit, subtly or not. Thank you

Well here it is:

Lucky the Elf: A Christian Story

There once was an elf, named Lucky, who worked in a magical toy shop.
A toy shop unlike no other’s.
In this little ol shop, those funny little elves had a
special job, for the elves must watch over
all the toys that the Great Toy Maker created
and make sure these toys obeyed the Great Toy Maker.
For the Great Toy Maker made a special type of toy. A toy called Man.
The toy’s were indeed special, cause they were loved above d everything else, by
the Great Toy Maker himself. This Great Toy Maker had a name, but only he
himself knew all 72 of his name, for the little guardian elves knew only 36 names
of the Great Toy Maker. But they just call him Al La.

Now for Lucky, he was The Great Toy Maker’s favourite little elf, cause Lucky
was such a clever little elf and Al La’s greatest choir teacher.
Lucky was also the most beautiful elf of all of Ne-Ve-aH and non of the other
elves could ever compare. Now of course Lucky couldn’t possibly be the little
elves real name, no, it’s the little guy’s nickname giving by the other elves
cause they felt he was such a lucky little guy. If you must know, Lucky’s real
name is Lou Seh pher. A name meaning beholder of the light, for Lucky’s vast
knowledge alone could almost compare to the Al La’s wisdom. But not so much.

Now the story I am about to tell takes place after the creation of these special
toy called man, a story of when poor little Lucky disobeyed the Great Toy Maker
And got thrown out of Ne-Ve-ah and became Al-La’s greatest enemy.

Deep within the great valley of Ne-Ve-aH, after some time The Great Toy Maker
created his most beloved toy, lies a great garden. This Garden was an exclusive
place created by Al-La for his most precious toy, man. The Great Toy Maker decided
to name his creation, Ma-Da and told Ma-Da that he could name all the great
wonderful things in this special garden. So Ma-Da set upon naming all that he’d
seen around him and Al-La watched in great wonder, what names Ma-Da gave all the
flowers, trees, fruits, and animals. But something was wrong here. For Ma-Da,
Al-La noticed was indeed lonely. This saddened the Great Toy Maker very much for
he only wanted his special creation to be happy. Being the wise creator he was,
Al-La came up with a idea for the unhappy Ma-Da.

“Go and sleep my great creation for in the morning I have a special surprise for
you” Al-La told Ma-Da.
So Ma-Da went asleep that night and received a great surprise.
Another toy just like him!
“What wonders stand before me, oh Great Toy Maker!” Ma-Da exclaimed happily.
Ma-Da was indeed very happy that there was another toy just like him. But something
was different about it. It had a face just like his, but something was very
different about this new toy and Ma-Da couldn’t put his finger on it.

Al-La, noticing this difference, explained that this new toy was indeed than
Ma-Da but it was to become his wife. His life partner.

“You see Ma-Da, this is a toy, just like you, but I created her just for you
for you were lonely and looked like you needed some help in ruling over this
special garden I have created just for you”

So Ma-Da and this new toy were joined together for life by the Great Toy Maker
and Al-La told Ma-Da that he should give this new toy a name as well.

“I know,” said Ma-Da “I’ll call her Thil-Il after the beautiful flower, Ilil.”
But poor Thil-il didn’t like how Ma-Da was the only one who could name her.
Didn’t Thil-il get a say in this?

The Great Toy Maker, noticing Thil-il’s displeasure at the fact that she didn’t
have a say in her name asked her

“What displeases you Thil-il?, was not Ma-Da created first by me?, Did I not
appoint him over lord of this great and wondrous paradise?”

Thil-il didn’t like the fact that Ma-Da was indeed the overlord over her
So she uttered a secret word that The Great Toy Maker planted in her heart and
she was gone, just like that.
For the secret word was Di-Vorce

The Great Toy Maker went swiftly to track Thil-il down, to try and talk some
sense into her, but Thil-il was greatly angered and told Al-La that she
would be a curse upon Ma-Da’s future descendants and Al-La told Thil-il that
she was now an enemy of his and told her where she could find the perfect
husband for her, a disobedient little elf named Lou-seh-pher.

Now after being kicked out of Neh-Ve-ah for being disobedient, Lucky set forth
to wreck his vengeance upon the new toys called man.

What could Lucky have done to anger the Great Toy Maker? What could he have done
to anger such a peaceful and loving Toy Maker?

Well the answer to these questions take place a few days before, just shortly after
Al-La’s greatest creation.

Well there it is people, pretty much my current writing skills. Please tell me what you guys think and help me out a bit :/ I just wrote the whole story in like an hour but the idea was floating around in my head for some time now. Thank you for reading

The Judge Rotenberg Center

Recently, the JRC was banned from using aversives on any new student at their school. This is a great step forward. However, students who were at the school before a certain date still recieve the aversives. Is this fair? I think not! Since when does the date one was at a school dictate whether they get tortured or not?

I think the Judge Rotenberg Center is also due to corporate greed. They want to keep people for years and shock them for transgressions such as asking to go to the bathroom so that they can make all their fancy paperwork about having to shock this one or that one, and show it to the school board and the government, so that the school districts and the government will continue to give them enormous sums of money and maybe give them extra because they see how often the students “have” to be “dealt with”. Pretty much anyone who can afford a lobbyist is bad news anyway.

List of tortures and excuses for the torture

Tortures:
Isolation
Food deprivation (The food was thrown away. A lot of food got thrown away, as they ordered fresh food every day to reward the “good” students and staff.)
Electric skin shocks, some leaving a red mark or even blister welts (especially when applied to the same part of the skin multiple times in a short time). Staff would often fail to rotate the electrodes strapped to the students’ skin and that was another reason students got first-degree burns.

Forced inhaling of ammonia
Taste aversives
Forced ingestion of hot sauce
Muscle squeezes
Pinches with fingernails
Restraint with or without a sensory deprivation helmet
Shocks at intervals while restrained on a restraint board
Removal of “rewards”

What the student did to get tortured or threatened with torture:

Other issues—last but NOT LEAST:

There were also “behavioral rehearsal lessons” where the student was forced to do something against the rules and punished for it, then punished also for not doing it.
They also set up unfair situations “to prepare the student for the unfair world”.
They also charged students reward points for counseling if the student wanted it, and the counseling was behavioral rather than traditional.
Once a former student, as a prank, called into one of the school’s residential houses pretending to be the school and telling the staff to punish two of the students in the house. The staff did it. Both students received over 70 shocks each while restrained on a board.
A girl escaped from the center by jumping out of a second-floor bathroom window at one of the center’s group homes. She was never found, so it was not publicized.
One mother uses the Graduated Electronic Decelerator on her son if he doesn’t “put on his seat belt, hand her that apple, or sit appropriately/quietly and eat his food”.
Students who said bad things about the center to the press were not allowed to speak with the press again.
A student says he got taken down on the ground simply for running his mouth.
Soome students are there for most of their lives and still “need” the GED and are working on the same learning programs on the computer for years. This is not quality of life.
Some students were forced to do the same exercise over and over on the computer, mindlessly tapping out the same responses.
One girl, Linda Cornelison, was punished for acting sick. They did not recognize she was ill and continued to punish her until she died.
The students who died there were written down to have died of natural causes because they wouldn’t have died if not for their neurological disabilities/differences. So it is okay to torture a person to death because they are disabled/different?
Parents were brainwashed into thinking that listening to their students’ complaints about the cruelty of the place were nothing but a reward the student hadn’t earned.
Many of the practises at the school are not done to convicted serial killers. The JRc’s answer to this is that “No, they’re not killers, they’re disabled and it’s not their fault.” So then they punish them for being disabled. “They need the punishment.” Then don’t the killers also need the punishment?
They say it is just like any painful medical procedure that is necessary. I say it’s nonsense. When a competent and kind doctor does a procedure, he will if necessary give painkillers to the patient. Whereas at the JRC, the punishment and pain are considered the actual treatment, not side effects to be treated.
Students are not allowed anything they haven’t earned. One student got into trouble for sharing a slice of pizza with a friend because his friend “hadn’t earned that reward”. Maybe he did, by being a friend to his friend!
That same student wrote a personal journal at the JRC and staff confiscated it.
That same student turned on the radio at his JRC residence but a staffer turned it off because not everyone in the house had earned the right to listen to music.
That same student was forced to stay at the police station and help clean it when there was a holiday and the JRC was closed.
Students’ punishments were eased up when their court dates neared, as an ex-teacher there admits.

Punishment like that does not work because it is cruel.

Here are the reasons summed up why we must not support Autism Squeaks.

1. They told me to say nothing if I had nothing positive to say about Autism Speaks. I tell them to say something postive about autism. I didn’t, however, tell them to not speak if they had nothing good to say about it, just that they should not spread FALSE propaganda that autism ruins lives and marriages and families, that autistics are hopeless without their treatments (some of which are abusive).
2. They threatened at least two autistic people (one who made a parody of the Autism Speaks website and another who made a t-shirt saying he didn’t need Autism Speaks because he was autistic and could speak for himself). The two people came out triumphant, however… there’s this little thing called fair use that includes parodies and comments.
3. They say autism is a negative thing.
4. They propose some abusive treatments for some autistics, or all.
5. They are trying to develop a genetic test that will ensure that nobody autistic is ever born again on this planet. Even if it is meant to simply plan for the child’s life, the truth is that there are a lot of ignorant people out there who will abort their children after learning they are autistic.
6. The corporate greed is the reason Autism Speaks exists. They want us to think there is a crisis to direct our attention away from their scam. We are not a tragedy. The same with other things, like gangs, school shootings, missing children, etc. They use that stuff to get our attention away from the bigger issues… THEM. Also, they want us to believe we are a tragedy so that money can be made for or given to them to erase us from the world, when really they want that money for themselves… corporate greed.
7. They also don’t let all autistics speak for themselves, and claim to speak for autistics even tho they are NT, but they will not let autistics speak for other autistics, saying we can’t speak for them.
8. They think treatment is the only chance for certain, most or all autistics to lead a productive/meaningful/functional life, when some people who are severely “low-functioning” grow up to be extremely high functioning with NO help whatsoever.

I am not good at waiting.

Gray is not my color. In the case of Bob and Tammy Fae Baker, A Mainstream American lower Midwest Baptist, Luthern, Methodist, middle class blend, with waterslides, they were deposed for airconditioning the dog house. They had a mission, making that dog stay outside was just un Christian, and the $18,000 could have been put to better use. Like a bigger waterslide.

There were a lot of the best people involved until the paychecks stopped. It was based on donations, and when word got out that the dog was made to stay in the yard, donations stopped, and people took their children to the Jellystone Campground.

Sure, the waterslides are smaller, but they allow dogs.

You are still trying to pitch autism as exhibited in eight year olds. Sure they are bad dogs, an ugly duckling, that all ducks pick on till they grow up to become Swans.

So you have all your ducks in a line.

Having never studied adult outcomes you have no idea what we become in time. You just wanted to stomp on the nests.

So you come to our Preserve yelling duck slogans, not watching where you step, a townie in the wild lands.

A disturbance in the peace of the countryside attracts attention, what is it? It sounds like a moose with a broken leg. Its suffering replaces tranquility. A broad circle forms to restore tranquiity, end suffering, the circle closes, peace returns.

So someone recently told you you were autistic, gave you some pills for that, you spoke with the best of NT minds about how tragic it all is, and thumping the Sacred DSM charged into the homeland of old free range autistics, where children play, and people older than your grandparents sit and think.

We have our own religion thank you. We have heard of yours going back fifty years, but it never attracted us. Perhaps your talents would do better elsewhere, like Preaching to the Bears in Yellowstone.

Autism is not the excuse you seem to use it for, that is just you. It is a rare difference in thought and perception. Day to day life gets on well with the common thought, but there come times when something else is needed.

In lives long past we were there, hung around my neck a Swan carved in antler. We are like the other birds, we just continue growing long after they stop. We are the first to go north in the spring, and the last to return in the fall. Swan Song ends the year and brings the snow.

We are a people of another vision, not defective ducks.

As through all of time, the Great Mother has lead us to a place to live in peace. We are closer to the other animals, the land, plants, and the stars, we hear things you do not, for we listen.

Some sing songs of life, some their death song, ever drawing their end nearer.

I came here looking for something new, so far a waste of clicks and electrons.

Optimistic Autistic can be done, Constructive, Creative, and something to counter the popular view that our only art forms are complaining, and paintings rendered on the wall in feces.

There used to be some identity conflict with the mentioned seven billion, but that was before they followed their dream of full unemployment and endless debt. Lately I see the trend reversing, as an example, the people that work at Goodwill said I dress funny, but now they point out the style is catching on. Americans are seeking something new to follow like sheep.

I never thought of myself as a social leader, when I go to the Chinese takeout, they say what I will order when I walk in the door, and mention that others have thrown off the demands of constant novelity, and really want traditional food, a bucket of white rice, with two containers of toppings, enough for several boring but economic meals. It turns out that is how a billion Chinese eat.

Autism is becoming trendy. It is starting slow, but the signs are there that the Neurotypical Bubble is bursting, and all of the talking to others at the watercooler about sports is being seen as the useless filler it is, sold to them by beer advertizers.

Even the claimed magical Mirror Neurons, Empathy, more and more are coming clean and admitting that they have no clue, and just lie to make it seem that they know what is going on.

Neurotypical Culture is a Ponzi, it spread, but to continue, new players are needed, about a doubling of the population, to keep the game going. The illusion of status is fading, just as it always has for older people who at some point quit the game, and wave canes at anyone who sets foot on their lawn, are downright rude to phone sales people, and tell the door to door religious types that is a load of crap.

Old people, with a lifetime of experience, in the wisdom of age, seem to become autistic. They eat the same food over and over, wear out of fashion clothes that are older than most people, and aviod all involvment in social games.

As mortgages go underwater, people who once snubbed me since their house was worth a few thousand more, are now coming to realize with all the cutbacks, the guy next door is the most likely person to save them from some local disaster. When they had money, were making more, they had 10,000 friends, gone now, and making peace with someone they looked down on will not make a friend, but perhaps he will not axe murder them.

We had an early taste of it after Katrina. A third of the city left, half of the under eighteen never returned, and everyone lost connections. Post Katrina people I had seen for years that never spoke to me did. The flood made them insecure, many much poorer, and they were downgraded into my world, or no world at all.

We self centered live as we do, never change, and those who based their identity on having a new Prada Jock Strap, have lost all when the credit line was recended. Our boring unfashionable ways never changed, their whole world ended, and with what they have left, could barely afford to live in my style. Looking for a model that worked, people who managed constant survival, kept themselves involved in some recent obsession, turn out to be the new social leaders.

According to old people and recent trends, we were right all along. We have a natural resistance to change that the Amish admire. We never engaged in the Social Ponzi, sensing that it was a hollow illusion, and now that it has become obvious, the world looks to us for how basic survival works.

In just a few years I have gone from being that weird guy who collects junk, to someone who own antiques, worth something, to a local man who owns the means of production, and is self directed.

When they all worked for big companies, owned a business, were making enough to service their debt, I was considered dumb. Now that that is gone, except the debt, my debt free means of living and production seem a much better path.

In our joint economic future these are the good old days. They lived as Vegas High Rollers, on markers, and now owe the house everything they might make in the future. They are so far down the Endless Pit of Hell would fit in one corner of their hole. Being even, Broke, is the new rich.

In that background, I am debt free, own transport, clothing, and the means of production that will last a lifetime. My methods have shown continual improvment. It forms a base to gather more which is going for pennies in this economic disaster.

I never wasted my time in social networking, so did not share in their losses.

We are the model of the future, trend setters, living in what is real.

I am a burden, I am a statistic, I am a number. I am one of many, solely because I am autistic. This is how the organization Autism Speaks views an autistic person. The goal of Autism Speaks, devoted to the curing and research of autism, is “Making autism a word in the history books.” Other autistics agree with me when I say, “We don’t want Autism Speaks speaking for us.”

According to Ari Ne’eman, the founder of Autistic Self-Advocacy Network or ASAN, the right motto is, “Nothing about us, without us,” which is a motto that has been embraced by the autistic community. This motto expresses the outrage of planning the future for the entire autistic population without the involvement of those that are on this spectrum.
Before I started accepting the fact that I was autistic, I heard of Autism Speaks.

This organization was founded by a couple named Bob and Suzanne Wright as a means to help their grandson. Yet when I look deep into the pages of their website and it says clear as day “Making autism a word in the history books.” Anyone like me would react with shock when hearing these words, “Making autism a word in the history books.” Why focus on curing autism? To focus on a cure ignores those that need help today. The focus should be on helping autistics meet their needs now. Autistics need to learn how to acquire basic living skills, such as having a job and establishing a roof over their head.

Autism is a cognitive disability. When one hears that someone wants to make a cognitive disorder “a word in the history books,” one thinks of eugenics or in other words “wiping out a minority group”, and while I’m not suggesting this is connected with Nazi-era Germany, the core of the idea is similar. Attempting to cure a cognitive disability is absurd, yet never the less Autism Speaks is using Dr. James Watson’s efforts to what he calls curing stupidity.

Working towards a cure isn’t going to bring forth a worthwhile society; it is only going to strip enrichment from the world. Working towards getting rid of autism will not make the world happier; it is only going to sadden the world by eliminating genius. For example, scientific and artistic contributions to society have been made by some well-known historical figures, such as Albert Einstein and Vincent Van Gogh, who, if today’s diagnostic tools had been available, might have been on what we call the spectrum, ranging from Asperger’s, Pervasive Developmental Disorder, to High and Low Functioning Autism. What if Albert Einstein never existed? What if Starry Night was never painted by Van Gogh? The world would be worse, not better, without the contributions of Einstein and Van Gogh.

What I want to suggest is that Autism Speaks not focus on the intent to get rid of something because they view it as a burden. When hearing Autism Speaks commercials portray autism in a negative light, I am saddened by the ignorance of the commercials’ approach. It’s not a burden, it’s a gift. It’s not a curse, it’s a blessing. All we need to do is learn to use this difference in cognitive function as a gift and a blessing. I am one of those advocates along with ASAN who want to focus on improving society’s perspective of autism and on improving the living situations of individuals that are on the spectrum.

At first, I thought my diagnosis was crazy. I did not notice the quirks that I have,or how tired I got of acting normal to everyone else’s standards, and trying to pass myself off as a neurotypical, the name autistics use to refer to those not on the spectrum. Actually it’s very hard to portray myself as not being on the spectrum. Even in high school, I didn’t want anyone to know because I didn’t want to be treated any differently. I wanted independence like everybody else. But I felt like I was alone and worthless.

Searching for open communication, I found a forum in February 2009 for autistics, and I realized I wasn’t alone, would never be alone, that everyone has struggles, but we are still worthwhile and valuable to society. I am autistic. I do not need to become obsolete, a word in the history books. I am not a burden, I am not a statistic, I am not a number, and yes, I am one of many.

Autspks has always been our enemy

They should be apologising to every adult Autist on this planet

There should be apologies to every parent of an Autistic child everywhere

I demand an apology

I demand the resignation of their money grabbing board

I demand the halt to all of their research into the ’cause’ and cures for Autism

I demand that there stockpile of monies be turned over to ASAN
where a splinter group perhaps called We.Speak could be formed

There should be ASAN or WE.Speak marches where money could be gathered for treatments of the children and those adults who have not managed to join society.

This has always been our desire here at AFF

There can be no greater actvism for Autists than to wipe all vestiges of AutSpks from this planet.

Any interviews conducted should be in public (radio,TV, live webcast) where all of us can see and judge them for ourselves.

The interview should be conducted by a trusted member of the membership here.

Recently, the Autism at About.com Facebook community has been chatting about the topic of empathy. Do people with autism really have less empathy than people withOUT autism?

It’s a topic I’m presently researching for an article – and a question that is hard to answer. After all, what is empathy really: an ability to actually feel what others feel? An ability to sympathize strongly enough with others that you reach out to help? Or – perhaps – an ability to know what you SHOULD feel for and with others, combined with the ability to express those appropriate feelings verbally?

Which brings up a topic I’ve been pondering recently: how different, really, is the high functioning autistic experience from that of typically developing individuals? Are the differences as deep and absolute as they’re sometimes portrayed? Or are they more about how we express what we understand, feel, and want?

I ask this question, in part, because I think there may be assumption that “neurotypical” folks are just brilliant at all the things that are tough for folks with Aspergers and high functioning autism.

Can MOST of us “read minds” just by glancing at others’ faces? The truth is that MOST of us are easily fooled. Sometimes we’re fooled by someone intending to mislead. Sometimes we’re fooled by our own assumptions. Was Amelia’s friendly wink a sexual come-on or a tease? Is Jane’s frown directed toward me – or is she nursing another migraine? Even neurotypicals can’t always tell for sure.

Do most of us find it easy to develop solid friendships or create strong, loving partnerships for life? If neurotypicals found these things easy, there’d be no need for e-harmony or match.com… we’d never read columns on “how to find friends,” the divorce rate would be well under 50%, and no neurotypical person would ever sit at home alone unless she actively wanted to. As everyone knows, though, making friends and building solid romantic relationships is hard work – not just for people with autism, but for everyone.

And what about the supposed neurotypical ability to communicate flawlessly, so that we understand and are understood at home, at school and in the workplace? As a whole industry of coaches, psychologists, consultants and trainers can attest, very few people are natural communicators. Sure, most neurotypicals are better at reading vocal tones and body language than most people on the autism spectrum. But few neurotypical people are so good at human relationships that we consistently say the right thing at the right time to the right person. That’s why so few talented writers have best selling novels… so few capable sales people are making money hand over fist… so few parents know all we want to know about our kids.

So why are so many of us convinced that neurotypicals have extraordinary skills not granted to those on the high end of the autism spectrum?

Yes, there are some real neurological differences, and there’s no doubt that neurotypical people really can interact more successfully than people with Asperger syndrome – most of the time. But here’s a thought to consider: could it be that neurotypical folks are simply better at SAYING they know, feel and understand others, even when they don’t? Maybe we’re more likely to tell Joe how bad we feel about his crumpled car when we’re really thinking “just what you deserve when you drive after four beers!” And maybe we’re better at nodding, smiling, and saying “I know what you mean” when in fact we don’t have a clue.

If we’re convinced that women are from Venus, men are from Mars, bosses are from Jupiter and kids are from Pluto… are we neurotypicals really so impressive when it comes to communication?

Maybe… just possibly… we “Aspergians” and “neurotypicals” aren’t as different as all that.
